About Joschka
I have two years and over a hundred hours experience tutoring STEM subjects to students aged between 11 and 15 as well as mentoring less abled students in maths.
Past students have gone on to attend the Cambridge IGCSE programme and refer me to friends.
I have 4 A*s at A level (in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science) as well as 9s in all STEM subjects at GCSE. I was offered a place at Imperial to study Physics (although chose to study elsewhere) and as a student I was selected for the UK Maths Challenge every year.
I help students with the theory behind topics, prepare them specifically for exams, and walk them through previously completed exams.
My method of tutoring revolves around the idea of understanding, instead of simply learning. As well as allowing a student to appreciate why they are doing what they are doing, understanding an idea enables a student to tie together and learn different, related ideas more easily. It also makes the process of learning more satisfying, which of course has countless benefits.
If time allows, I will guide a student through their own intuition behind a concept allowing them to reach the answer for themselves. Although where necessary I will of course prioritise a student passing an exam, which may mean simply walking them through memorisation techniques.
A large part of becoming proficient in an area is the confidence you have in it, and so an underlying aspect of my lessons is to improve a student's own image of themselves in an academic environment.
I can provide feedback after each lesson, in order to keep track of a student's progress and allow them decide where to prioritise their time.
