About Leon

I am just starting out as a formal tutor, and I am looking to gain experience at the moment - including by giving lessons for a very low cost. I have however had some informal experience in teaching my younger brother, and I am someone who all through school and university was always helping my classmates understand content, due to my ability to understand quickly and explain well. From this experience I know that I am well-suited to being a tutor.

About the lesson

Hi! The main subject I teach is maths and I am enthusiastic to teach anyone up to degree level. My achievements in this subject are the achievement of a first-class joint degree in BSc Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Manchester, as well as two maths scholarships from the same university. I also achieved an A* grade in GCSE Maths, A-Level Maths, and A-Level Further Maths (including the FP3 and M3 modules).

I have also achieved very strong grades in essay and other science subjects, and half of my undergraduate degree was in philosophy. Next year I will be completing a master's degree in International Relations because I am planning to work in international politics. I also took three difference versions of the 11+ test successfully and so I can offer experience of these exams too (including verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths and other subjects).

I have a relaxed but diligent approach to teaching - I tend to come across as calm, and quiet but confident. I am very patient! I also have an excellent grasp of exam technique and academic discipline skills, such as organisation and timekeeping, and I view these as highly important to success at school and university. From my own experience of being taught piano in one-to-one lessons as a child, I understand that these highly transferable skills can be taught through different subjects, and I am keen to pass these skills on to any students that wish to improve in this area. I am a keen reader, especially in literature and politics, and alongside my academic achievements I have a wide range of interests and knowledge bases.
