About Betsy
Hi, I'm Betsy! I'm an MBPhD student at Barts Cancer Institute, combining a medical degree with research in breast cancer biology. My academic journey has given me a strong foundation in Biology and Chemistry, and I am passionate about helping students develop both confidence and a genuine understanding of these subjects.
I have several years of experience tutoring Key Stage 3, GCSE and A-Level students, tailoring every lesson to the individual's needs and learning style. Whether you're aiming to improve your confidence, achieve a higher grade, or prepare for important exams, I will work with you to create a supportive and structured learning environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and challenging yourself.
My teaching focuses on understanding rather than memorisation. I break down difficult concepts into clear, manageable steps, use plenty of worked examples, and reinforce learning with exam-style questions and proven revision techniques. As a medical student and researcher, I also enjoy showing students how the science they learn in school applies to medicine and real-world research, helping to make lessons engaging and relevant.
I understand that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching to suit your pace and goals. My aim is not only to help you achieve excellent results, but also to build the confidence and independent learning skills that will benefit you long after the exam is over.

My teaching approach is centred on building confidence, developing a genuine understanding of the subject and tailoring every lesson to the individual student. I believe that students learn best when they understand why something works, rather than simply memorising facts or methods. I adapt my teaching style to suit each student's learning preferences, pace and goals, whether they are aiming to improve confidence, achieve a target grade, or prepare for exams.
My lessons are interactive and structured, beginning with a review of previous learning before introducing new concepts using clear explanations and worked examples. I encourage students to ask questions throughout and regularly check their understanding using practice questions and exam-style problems. For GCSE and A-Level students, I place particular emphasis on examination technique, common pitfalls, and developing effective revision strategies.
