About Ali

I'm Ali. I help engineering students understand thermodynamics, mechanics and control systems, especially when equations or simulation results stop making sense. My academic background is in Aerospace Engineering at the Institute of Space Technology in Pakistan, with a focus on guidance, navigation and control. Thermodynamics and MATLAB/Simulink are particular strengths. I connect a physical system to its assumptions and equations, explain the method, and guide you as you try the next step. Questions about the basics are welcome: one missing idea can hold up a whole calculation. My aim is to help you explain your own working and approach the next problem more independently. I teach in English online from Pakistan, with lessons available to students in London and across the UK.

Stuck on an energy balance, a mechanics calculation or a Simulink response? Bring one question and your attempt. We identify the difficult step, work through a relevant example and practise applying the method. Lessons primarily suit university engineering, foundation, BTEC and diploma students.

Thermodynamics and heat transfer: systems, properties, first- and second-law reasoning, energy balances, entropy, cycles and efficiency; conduction, convection, radiation and heat exchangers. Selected mass-transfer questions are matched to your syllabus.

Mechanics and materials: statics, dynamics, free-body diagrams, equilibrium, motion, work and energy; stress, strain, torsion, beam bending and deflection. Engineering Materials questions can include properties, selection and failure behaviour.

Control Systems, MATLAB and Simulink: mathematical models, transfer functions, state space, time response, stability, root locus, Bode plots and PID control. We build or debug models and check simulation results against the theory.

Aerospace and related modules: Flight Dynamics, Flight Control Systems, Stability and Control, Guidance and Navigation, spacecraft dynamics and control, propulsion and vehicle performance. Selected aircraft or spacecraft design questions are agreed from your syllabus. Ask about Engineering Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Engineering Management or Human Factors topics too; I confirm the specific material before booking.

For coursework and projects, we interpret the brief, review your method and trace errors together. You develop your own calculations, models and explanations. Exam preparation uses representative problems and timed practice where useful.

In your first lesson, we choose one achievable goal, tackle a representative difficulty and agree a practice task. During continuing lessons, you explain and attempt the next step with feedback. We check units, signs and physical meaning throughout.

Send your module, one question or screenshot, any deadline, and preferred times in UK time. I will confirm the topic and availability.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I've always been driven by curiosity about how aircraft fly and how to control them, not just aerodynamics textbooks. In high school, I reverse-engineered paper planes to understand lift, then progressed to drone prototypes in university. During my BE-Aerospace Engineering studies at IST, peers struggled with MATLAB and Simulink projects-so I stepped in, turning complex flight-control algorithms into clear, hands-on lessons. That spark grew into a full-time tutoring passion.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subjects you teach and your favorite topics.

Aerospace Engineering: Flight dynamics, stability and control, UAV navigation.

Control Systems: PID loops, state-space modeling, MATLAB & Simulink simulations (I'm MathWorks-certified in Simulink Modeling).

Mechanics of Materials & Solid Mechanics: Stress-strain analysis using Hibbeler's Statics & Dynamics.

Heat & Mass Transfer: Real-world exchanger design case studies.

C++ Programming: High-performance code for simulation and data analysis.

My favorite lessons combine MATLAB Simulink modeling with real-time control tests. I'm less enthused by pure thermodynamic derivations-so I turn them into interactive Simulink demos.
  • 3) Who inspired you as a teacher?

Dr. Jamshed Riaz, my Control Systems professor, is my role model. His lab sessions demystified feedback loops with live hardware demos-transforming Laplace transforms into intuitive block diagrams. He also recommended Hibbeler's "Engineering Mechanics" texts, which remain the gold standard for teaching statics and dynamics.
  • 4) What qualities make a great tutor?

Empathy: Tailoring explanations to each student's background.

Clarity: Breaking down Simulink models and control-system equations into step-by-step visuals.

Expertise: MathWorks-certified, fluent in MATLAB, Simulink, C++ and solid mechanics fundamentals.

Responsiveness: Answering questions within an hour.

Motivation: Turning challenges into "aha" moments with hands-on projects.
  • 5) Share a valuable anecdote from your tutoring or school days.

During a drone-control workshop, our quadcopter kept oscillating. I implemented a Simulink-based PID tuner, ran a live flight test jam, and mapped real-world disturbances to refine gains. That weekend hackathon not only stabilized the drone but taught everyone the power of data-driven control-systems tuning.
  • 6) What challenges have you faced in your subject?

Abstract Modeling: Converting Hibbeler's theoretical statics problems into intuitive 3D visuals.

Balancing Rigor and Accessibility: Ensuring Simulink block diagrams are both accurate and student-friendly.

Complex Code Integration: Merging C++ algorithms with MATLAB data pipelines.

I overcome these by layering lessons: start with a high-level overview, then dive deep when you're comfortable.
  • 7) What's your biggest passion?

I'm passionate about innovation through education-especially developing custom MATLAB and Simulink toolboxes for flight-control prototyping. Teaching is the outlet for sharing that innovation: every simulation, every C++ script, and every mechanics problem solved fuels future aerospace breakthroughs.
  • 8) What makes you a standout Superprof tutor?

    I deliver a scalable, project-based tutoring framework:

Custom dashboards tracking your MATLAB & Simulink proficiency.

Interactive control-systems lab sessions via remote simulation.

Tailored mechanics exercises using Hibbeler's proven methods.

MathWorks certifications ensuring up-to-date Simulink expertise.

If you're searching Superprof for an Aerospace Engineering tutor, MATLAB Simulink modeling coach, Control Systems tutor, or Mechanics of Materials instructor, let's connect-and take your engineering skills to new heights!
