About Jonathon
I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate from Technological University Dublin with a first-class honors degree (1.1), combining strong academic credentials with practical, real-world experience. Currently serving as an Armorer in the Irish Defence Forces, I have worked on hands-on engineering and design projects, giving me a unique perspective that I bring into my tutoring sessions. In addition to my military role, I have served as an instructor at the Ordnance School, where I developed effective teaching skills by explaining complex technical concepts to a diverse group of learners. This experience has honed my ability to tailor lessons to different learning styles and break down challenging material into clear, understandable parts. I am passionate about helping students succeed by providing patient, personalized support in key mechanical engineering subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, CAD, engineering maths, and machine design. My goal is to build your confidence, deepen your understanding, and help you achieve excellent results. My tutoring approach is clear, structured, and tailored to each student’s needs. I focus on building genuine understanding of mechanical engineering principles by breaking down complex topics into manageable steps. I combine: Step-by-step problem solving Use of real-world engineering examples from my military and design experience Visual explanations (diagrams, CAD models, simulations) Regular practice and feedback to reinforce learning Lessons typically last 45 to 60 minutes and are designed to support students in coursework, exam prep, lab reports, or project work. Subjects I cover include: Thermodynamics (heat transfer, cycles, energy systems) Fluid Mechanics (Bernoulli’s equation, flow analysis, pipe systems) Engineering Mechanics (statics, dynamics, kinematics, force systems) Materials Science (stress/strain, failure theory, material selection) Machine & Tool Design (gears, shafts, tolerances, mechanical components) Control Systems (open/closed loop, feedback, system modeling) Engineering Mathematics (differential equations, matrices, Laplace, calculus) CAD & SolidWorks (2D/3D modeling, assemblies, drawings) Manufacturing Processes (machining, welding, CNC, production systems) Final Year Projects & Technical Reports (structure, content, writing guidance) I hold a 1.1 Honors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from TU Dublin, and currently serve as an Armorer in the Irish Defence Forces, where I’ve also worked as an instructor at the Ordnance School, delivering technical training in engineering and design systems.
