About Emily

I am a 3rd year medical student based in London. I have been tutoring freelance for 9 months, however I have been tutoring through an educational charity 2 years, and have been helping under-represented students with A-level biology, chemistry and maths for 4 years.

I have taught around 20 students so far, in both GCSE and A-level biology and chemistry.

I have taken many of my students from achieving D/E grades, to A and B grades. I also have helped students already achieving A/B grades to the A* grade, for more competitive courses and applications.

Many of the concepts discussed in A-level biology and chemistry are built upon in medical school, so I have a comprehensive knowledge of the subject area, yet can go back to basics to ensure the student isn't overwhelmed with more detailed information at first.

About the lesson

I tend to give my lessons to A-level and GCSE students. For A-levels, I tutor biology and chemistry. For GCSE, I tutor single, double and triple science, as well as mathematics. I am familiar with all exam boards and adapt my teaching accordingly. Many of the students I've tutored have been aiming for high-achieiving degrees such-as medicine and biomedicine, so I understand what is needed for these courses academically.

The session moves much more smoothly if the student is engaged, asks questions and informs me on which specific areas they would like to cover both in that session, and in the future so I can make a plan of what to cover and when.

My lesson plans are quite flexible, however they tend to follow the structure of:
1. Identifying weak areas.
2. Covering the content that is needed to be known for the exam. This can be done through discussion, flashcards, drawing etc.
3. Consolidating content through going over some practice questions.
4. Depending on the individuals workload and parent preference, a few questions to do alone before our next session, for us to go over to ensure the student feels more confident
