About Sofia
I have loved to read and write since I can remember, and I'm passionate about inspiring my students to unlock the joy in their literary and writing endeavors. In addition to extensively tutoring through individual sessions and working at Kumon, I am a nationally recognized writer with several gold medals from the Scholastic Art & Writing awards and an experienced journalist currently serving as the news editor for the award-winning Columbia Daily Spectator. I'm happy to answer any questions before we start tutoring about my experiences and what you need from tutoring!

I teach writing & literature lessons for all ages and grades, from elementary to high school. Typically, for writing & literature tutoring, we'll do some free writes and establish strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement. Then, we'll practice writing specific essays together, go over relevant grammatical techniques together, workshop pieces of writing together, and more. We'll practice the five-paragraph essay structure and learn about how to build arguments, particularly with analyzing literature. For creative writing, we'll go over the basic elements of craft and practice reading creative work with a critical eye.
