About Nya
I’m currently studying a bachelor of science, majoring in microbiology and minoring in Chinese. I was born in Hong Kong and started out in the fast-paced, competitive IB schooling system before moving to Auckland and continuing my learning through years 5-13. My biggest passion in academics is science (biology especially), but I also enjoy creative writing and reading, making me a great English tutor despite my science-focused career direction. Throughout high school, I studied often and prided myself in getting good grades. I received excellence endorsements for year 11 and 12 and a merit endorsement for year 13, as well as 7 individual merit course endorsements across the three years. In class, I was always the person others would ask for help when they felt stuck. Despite this, I still maintained an active social life because I researched study techniques to make myself a more efficient learner.

My lessons will be focused on targeting any gaps the student may have. I will teach the concept in the students' preferred way(explanations, visual learning, etc) before setting the knowledge in stone with practice questions. Closer to exams or tests, I will focus more on helping the student understand the marking schedules and developing exam strategies as well as answering practice questions to prepare them. Lessons can range between 1-3 hours and tutoring at public libraries or at the students home(given it is not too far from mine) works best. My tutoring is best suitable for students who need help in biology, chemistry, general math, statistics, and English. I can also teach students how to be better learners through trying new study techniques to help the student find one that suits them. Whilst I don't have any official tutoring experience, I have helped a family member with learning difficulties through NCEA and was a peer support leader for my final 2 years in high school, helping year 9 students adjust to high school.
