About Giada

Hello learners! My name is Giada, I come from a medium size, nice city in Calabria, Italy, located between the sea and the mountains. In August 2019, I moved to the pleasant green land (England) where I currently happily live with my husband Gary.
My first encounter with the English language happend during my first year of primary school and it's since then that my love for this language has never come to an end as well as my passion for teaching it to others.
My English has always been good through the years but during my secondary school, I realized that I wasn't completely happy with my listening and pronunciation, and some grammar aspects of this language were completely obscure to me. So it was from the age of 15 that I decided to study English on my own, and with time my level grew until I managed to reach different goals: B2 Cambridge, my first job in England in retail, IELTS, GCSE (which is like a diploma for British citizens), a place in a UK University (Canterbury) for a teaching experience and the CELTA certificate.
I know I am not native but perhaps this is what makes me someone able to teach the language because unlike a native speaker, who speaks the language spontaneously without thinking about grammar rules etc, I have been through the learning process of English and I know what bits could be a "piece of cake" and which ones instead could be an obstacle, especially for the Latin language speakers (Italians, Spanish, etc).
During my education, I rarely had good teachers so I know how frustrating it could be when you put all of your efforts into any subject and you are not able to succeed because for instance your teachers always just read the grammar rules in the book without ever explaining them properly. Simplicity and engagement are the key, always.
My goal is your goal, and as a consequence, my personal and professional target is your development and success.

About the lesson

My passion has been to teach ever since I was a child.
In April 2019, I undertook a degree in English, Chinese, and Spanish. My degree has taught me the theoretical aspect of language and the various methods involved with translation. Even if I am Italian, throughout my whole English learning path, I put deep attention to the British pronunciation rules, in order to make sure to sound more like a native and make my students be able to improve their listening skills and pronunciation.
I continued to develop my educational approach by teaching privately both face-to-face when I could, and via an online
teaching platform called Preply, providing me with practical experience.
My lessons cover a variety of topics such as grammar, vocabulary, writing, dictation, listening, and speaking. I aim to tailor my lessons according to my students’ level and needs. My PowerPoints are an important instrument to foster a learning approach that is the perfect balance between the language acquisition approach and the language learning method. Interactive, engaging, visual, and simple are the key adjectives for my teaching. Vocabulary, grammar, etc are always
explained and shown through an intelligent interactive learning path made of images, sounds, dialogs, videos, exercises, and games.
I always try to deliver my lessons with patience and passion and I am always willing to explain a particular lesson or concept every time a student needs it.
My one-hour lessons are for people from 11 years old onwards and I am currently teaching only the A1 level (due to PowerPoints developments) but with time my teaching levels will be extended to business English.
My additional qualifications are IELTS Academic (7.0) and GCSE English.
I am passionate about giving students the best possible start in life and I find it rewarding when I can inspire personal and academic success.
