About Oliver
As a current student at the University of Leeds, I’m passionate about helping others grow in their learning journey especially those who, like me, come from immigrant backgrounds. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to build confidence, adapt socially, and master English in a new environment, and that’s exactly why I’ve dedicated myself to tutoring. I believe learning should feel empowering, not intimidating. With patience, encouragement, and an understanding of the emotional and cultural challenges involved, I aim to create a safe, supportive space for my students to thrive academically and personally. My own experience navigating education as an immigrant has given me deep empathy and insight into the small things that often go unnoticed, like struggling to speak up in class or feeling behind even when you’re trying your best. I bring this awareness into every session, tailoring my teaching style to suit each student's needs. Whether you're looking to improve your English, boost your confidence, or just need someone who gets it I'm here to guide you through.

My Teaching Methodology: My approach is all about personal connection, real-world relevance, and growing confidence—not just textbook learning. As someone who had to overcome language and social barriers myself, I know that learning isn't just about getting the right answer, it's about feeling understood, seen, and safe to make mistakes. That’s why I offer a friendly, flexible, and student-led style of teaching that adapts to your pace, personality, and goals. I don’t just teach, I teach with you. Whether you're struggling with English grammar, preparing for exams, or just trying to feel more confident speaking in school or social settings, I’ll create a judgement-free space where you can learn comfortably. Every lesson is built on three key pillars: Connection – We start by understanding you and your goals. Confidence – We focus on building your self-belief through encouragement and achievable wins. Clarity – We break complex ideas into simple, relatable steps using real-life examples, conversations, and cultural context. A Typical Lesson Outline: Every session is tailored to you, but here’s a rough idea of how a 1-hour lesson might go: 1. Check-In & Confidence Boost (5–10 mins): We start with a relaxed catch-up and some light warm-up tasks to get your mind engaged and at ease. 2. Goal-Setting & Review (5–10 mins): We'll go over what we covered last time and set a clear, small goal for today’s session—something realistic and useful. 3. Focus Topic or Skill Work (30 mins): This is the main part of the lesson, whether we’re tackling grammar, practising conversation, improving writing, or preparing for exams. I’ll use interactive methods, examples from everyday life, and even pop culture if that helps you understand better! 4. Active Practice (10 mins): You’ll apply what you’ve learned in a fun, low-pressure task—this could be a role-play, mini writing challenge, or creative activity. 5. Feedback & What’s Next (5 mins): We’ll reflect on your progress and I’ll leave you with something to think about or practise until next time—always supportive, never overwhelming. What Makes My Tutoring Different: I understand what it’s like to feel behind, embarrassed, or unsure—and I make sure you never feel that way with me. I’m not just here to teach—I'm here to support, motivate, and genuinely care about your journey. Lessons are completely tailored—no one-size-fits-all worksheets, just what you need. I bring cultural understanding and lived experience that many tutors can't offer. I make learning fun, modern, and relevant—we can use TV shows, music, and real-world topics to make English come alive.
