About Victoria

As a graduate of Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor of Arts in English, I have years of experience learning how to parse complex prose and poetry from multiple eras. I have been taught how to form complete theses that answer original questions, and how to think independently. I can honestly say that I enjoy the challenge and thought-provoking research that accompanies essay crafting and active reading: it doesn't have to be overwhelming! From a young age, I have been an avid reader of all genres and a firm believer that it's never too late to learn the basics. It's never too late to find enjoyment in something once thought to be too difficult, and to feel confident asking questions about great works of literature. Missteps are not mistakes, but learning curves that may open your eyes to new and exciting perspectives. In fact, the "wrong" idea may be the very one you need!

About the lesson

In-depth speaking and writing courses can be intimidating, but with the proper techniques, you can succeed and thrive! As a tutor, I believe in taking the overwhelming "big picture" and zooming in to manageable areas. My goal is to teach you to ask exploratory questions, expand your thinking, and connect what you analyzed to the rest of the text or essay. By helping you to understand the content in its entirety, you will be able to form original thoughts and interpretations. I am able and happy to tutor anyone: from those struggling with introductory grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension to college undergrads taking intensive and advanced courses. I strongly believe anyone can read, write, and appreciate the English language, especially once any intimidating notions or fears are assuaged. I look forward to working with you in a judgment-free and constructive environment.
