About Hunter
I’m really passionate about making science more accessible and equitable. I currently run a nonprofit focused on STEM and environmental education for youth aged 9–18, where I design and deliver hands-on programs that make science feel approachable, practical, and engaging.
Alongside that, I work as a university lecturer and lab manager. I completed my Master’s research in shark ecology, where I studied mercury accumulation in coastal shark species. This gave me a strong background in research, data analysis, and scientific writing, which I now use to support students in their own work.
As a tutor, I focus on creating a space where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through ideas. I provide clear, direct, and constructive feedback, and take the time to explain why something works or doesn’t. I will take the time to make sure you actually understand your work and feel confident in it.
I work with students at all levels, from younger learners and high school students to university and graduate students. Whether you’re building a foundation in science or working through advanced research and writing, I’m happy to meet you where you’re at and help you move forward in your academic journey!

My approach to tutoring is very hands-on and practical. I try to meet students where they’re at and focus on helping them actually understand the material, not just memorize it. A lot of my work is centered around breaking down complex ideas into something clearer and easier to work with, especially in science and writing.
For lessons, it usually depends on what you need. If you’re working on a paper or assignment, we’ll go through it together, identify what’s not working, and fix it in a way that makes sense. If it’s more content-based, I’ll explain concepts, walk through examples, and check in to make sure it’s actually clicking. I try to keep things interactive so you’re not just listening the whole time.
One thing that sets me apart is that I work with this kind of material every day. As a lecturer and lab manager, I spend a lot of time reading, editing, and mentoring students through real academic work, including research projects and theses. That means I can give very direct, realistic feedback on both content and writing.
My lessons are open to all levels. I’m happy working with younger students and high school learners, but a lot of my experience is with university students, especially those working on upper-level courses, research, and writing. I’m comfortable helping with anything from basic science concepts to more advanced academic work.
