About Livia
I am a Chemistry tutor with over 4 years of experience and an MPhil in Chemistry. My teaching takes a holistic and interdisciplinary approach, focusing on the chemistry of art and cultural heritage preservation. I guide students through pigment analysis, material degradation, and conservation treatments, connecting chemistry with the fascinating world of art. I use historical art pieces and real-world examples to illustrate chemical principles in practice. Lessons incorporate chemical analysis techniques, laboratory demonstrations, and careful discussion of ethical considerations in restoration. Students learn not only the science behind the processes but also the responsibility involved in preserving cultural treasures. I have worked with art history students, conservationists, and anyone curious about the science that protects human creativity. Each session is tailored to foster curiosity, analytical thinking, and hands-on understanding. I emphasize critical evaluation, problem-solving, and the careful interpretation of data in real conservation contexts. Through my guidance, students gain insight into both the scientific and cultural dimensions of preservation. My goal is to make learning engaging, meaningful, and inspiring. My teaching approach in Chemistry combines a gentle and reflective style with a strong focus on mathematical foundations. I cover a wide range of topics, including physical chemistry, quantum mechanics, chemical thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics. Each concept is broken down into clear, manageable steps, making even complex theories approachable.
I emphasize understanding the “why” behind formulas and reactions, helping students see the logic connecting different areas of chemistry. Lessons are interactive, with real-world examples, problem-solving exercises, and thought experiments to deepen comprehension. Students are encouraged to explore creatively, connecting chemistry with their personal interests and curiosity.
Special support is provided for DIY biologists and science fiction thinkers, guiding them to find their unique voice while mastering challenging material. Assignments and practice sessions are tailored to reinforce understanding and build confidence. I also highlight the beauty and elegance of chemical principles, making learning both meaningful and enjoyable.
