About Merrin
Hi, I'm Merrin! I'm a data analyst and maths enthusiast with a genuine passion for helping people feel confident with numbers.
I hold an MSc in Business Analytics with Distinction from Coventry University, where I achieved the highest grade in a cohort of 70 students. Before that, I completed a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, which gave me a deep foundation in mathematics, from core algebra and trigonometry through to advanced statistics and applied problem-solving.
I've worked as a Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor in UK schools, supporting students across different year groups and abilities. I've also been tutoring informally since my own college days, helping classmates and friends prepare for exams, break down difficult concepts, and build confidence in subjects they once dreaded. Those experiences taught me that the best tutoring isn't about being the smartest person in the room — it's about listening carefully, explaining clearly, and making the student feel like they can do it.
Maths has always been my favourite subject. I love that moment when something suddenly clicks for a student, when a topic that felt impossible five minutes ago starts to make sense. That's what keeps me teaching.
Outside of tutoring, I work with data, dashboards, and analytics tools professionally, so I can also help older students and university learners see how maths connects to real-world careers in business, finance, and technology. It's a perspective that often makes abstract topics feel a lot more relevant and motivating.
I'm patient, organised, and genuinely invested in every student's progress. If you're looking for a tutor who makes maths feel less intimidating and more achievable, I'd love to work with you.

Every lesson is tailored to you. I start by understanding where you are right now, what topics feel comfortable and where things start to feel tricky. From there, I build a plan that moves at your pace, not mine.
A typical session lasts 60 minutes. We begin with a quick warm-up reviewing what we covered last time, then move into the main topic using clear, step-by-step explanations and worked examples. I always make sure you understand the "why" behind each method, not just the "how" — that way, when you see an unfamiliar question in an exam, you know how to approach it.
The second half of the lesson is all about practice. I give you questions to try while I'm right there to guide you, so we catch mistakes early and turn them into learning moments. I also provide optional exercises between sessions if you'd like extra practice during the week.
I keep things relaxed and encouraging, there's no such thing as a silly question in my lessons. Whether you're struggling with basics or pushing for top grades, I meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be.
Lessons are available online via Zoom or Google Meet, making scheduling easy and flexible around school, university, or work commitments.

I'd happily recommend Merrin. I know Merrin from college, where we studied together. During our maths exams, she was always willing to help me understand difficult concepts with patience and clear explanations. What I appreciated most about her teaching was how she broke down complex problems into simple, easy-to-follow steps, which made learning much less stressful. Studying with her before exams really boosted my confidence and helped me perform better. I highly recommend Merrin to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, supportive, and encouraging maths tutor.
I highly recommend Merrin as a math tutor. What makes her truly stand out is her rare ability to make math feel less intimidating and actually fun. She doesn't just teach formulas; she builds real confidence by meeting students exactly where they are and patiently breaking down complex concepts into simple, everyday ideas.Beyond her deep subject knowledge, Merrin brings an incredible warmth, energy, and patience to every session. She creates a safe, judgment-free space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Any student would be lucky to have her as a guide, and I have no doubt she will help them not only improve their grades but truly master the subject.
I've been learning maths from Merrin since my undergrad days, which by now feels like a small lifetime ago. Back then I was the student who could stare at a page of equations until the symbols started swimming, convinced maths was something other people were simply born understanding. Merrin quietly proved me wrong.
She has this way of sitting with a problem alongside you rather than towering over it. When I moved into robotics and the maths got heavier — the linear algebra, the calculus, all the machinery humming underneath kinematics and control — she didn't flinch. She met me exactly where I was and made the subject feel less like a wall and more like something I could actually walk through.
There was one project that nearly broke me: a tangle of equations I'd been circling for weeks, getting nowhere. One session with Merrin and the whole thing loosened, like she'd found the one thread worth pulling. That's her gift. She doesn't just get you to the right answer — she leaves you understanding *why*, so the next time you're on your own, you're not.
If you want a tutor who's patient, genuinely curious, and quietly brilliant at what she does, it's her. I wouldn't be where I am without her.Maths was always my weak point, and courses like Linear Algebra, Vector Calculus, and Differential Equations often left me stuck. Merrin has a rare gift for breaking down complex problems into simple, clear steps without ever making you feel behind. I recommend her wholeheartedly. She’s patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping students understand, not just memorise.

Merrin has a rare gift for breaking down complex problems into simple, clear steps without ever making you feel behind. One evening before the exams, she patiently walked me through an entire differential equations problem set until it truly clicked. I recommend her wholeheartedly. I’ve really enjoyed learning with Merrin. She explains maths clearly, is patient, and always takes the time to make sure I understand before moving on. She’s friendly, encouraging, and makes lessons feel relaxed, which has helped me feel much more confident with maths. I’d definitely recommend Merrin to anyone looking for a supportive and knowledgeable tutor.
