About Kathleen

I come to tutoring with 15 years classroom experience. I started my career as a science teacher after working hard to obtain my MSc in education in my early 40s. I have a lot of life experience behind me that enable me to be compassionate to the needs/stresses of students - both teens and adults.
I love to work with the earth sciences, biology, and have come to enjoy chemistry as well. As teaching needs changed, I added math to my subject areas, and have worked diligently to create a learning experience that makes math less formidable, easier to understand.
I love to get to know my students as individuals, and understand their learning styles. Over my years of teaching, I have had most previous students experience success and maintain a good relationship due to their successes. I value following students and work with them in the future if they need my help. Every student is highly valued as an individual!

About the lesson

love to work individually or with small groups and get to know student strengths. If a student is not understanding a concept, I try to find alternate ways to enhance the experience.
Typical lesson plans in math, the sciences review the previous material covered, tie into new material and relate the material to life experiences, issues where possible.
Based on student needs, subject material is broken down as simply as possible, skills reinforced with lesson. Near the end of a lesson, homework is assigned. Homework allows both my student(s), myself to see where strengths are and where reinforcement is needed.
Marking reflects usage of the methods, as well as comments on where an answer can be stronger to reflect in-depth understanding by the student.
I generally work with secondary and college level students, creating a comfortable learning atmosphere that is both friendly and highly supportive. I always remember that I too was a student who had my own struggles.
