A few years back I was a recently retired high school teacher and amateur musician when I saw Sheila perform in Cambridge, Ma. Her award winning days were yet to come. I'd been thinking about adding flute, the most easily transportable of instruments, to my repertoire. This dazzling undergrad had chops and stage presence; could she teach? Answer? Four years later? A resounding yes. Sheila gives you her complete attention and listens deeply. She will not patronize. My fear initially was she would say to me, the older guy, "very nice, very nice, (whatever),let's turn the page." Far from it. She cares about your sound, and will break it down with you so you will understand it and know how to proceed. When tough love is required, she does not shirk: play slower, play consciously, repeat. She does it with grace and wit, even with an old beginner. Could I recommend her more highly? I wish I knew how.

Sheila is kind, patient and endlessly creative in devising ways for me to be successful as an adult learner. She is always enthusiastic about pieces I want to learn, while suggesting useful tools for learning basic skills. I look forward to my lessons every week, whether they are in person or virtual. I highly recommend Sheila.
