About Kristie
My name is Kristie Laplante and I am a multidisciplinary artist, born and raised in Miami Gardens to Haitian parents. Growing up in the city of Miami, the exposure to bountiful cultures and lifestyles as well as the hardships of the area transformed my mind. In turn, the embodiment of my city integrated within my way of creating. Tags adjacent formal businesses, miscellaneous etchings in the uneven sidewalk made before the concrete finished drying, and murals of several historical leaders as grand as the walls they inhabit. Placed in areas of heavy traffic with a serving reminder that impact is possible for all. That we as everyday people have influence. My desire is to amplify the story; we too can be immortalized. I desire to create pieces that reflect my surroundings, romanticize life, uplift triumphs, acknowledge nuances of struggles, and exist just for the sake of existing. Art that reminds my community who we are and who we can be: bold, unapologetic, urban, nostalgic, and beautiful. Art for the people, made by the people.
