Teaching started for me not in a classroom, but by watching how music bridges gaps between people. It is rarely the grammar books that bridge the divide between newcomers and their new home. I have spent 11 years helping Grade 3 kids and professionals navigate English, often using indie music as our primary map.
Dealing with phrasal verbs or email writing feels much lighter when you have a melody to ground the logic. My work centers on building speaking confidence for immigrants and business travellers who are finding their footing in Canada. I truly value the human connection formed during these transitions. Sometimes I find myself humming a specific indie track after a long day of helping a student prepare for an interview.
