About Alex

I’m a gigging musician and singer-songwriter, as well as a musical theatre actor and singer. I love music in all of its forms, and have made it my mission to play as many instruments as I can!

I love to teach because it lets me share my passions and discoveries with others, and help them get up to a level of artistry they’re happy with. I owe everything in my career to my various teachers I’ve had over the years, and I want to be that for someone else.

In my spare time, I love playing D&D, reading books, and playing video games. To be a musician you do have to be a little bit of a nerd, after all…

About the lesson

With singing, I take a technique first approach to make sure you don’t just sound beautiful, but you can keep sounding beautiful no matter how much you sing! I trained in musical theatre which (for obvious reasons) really emphasises sustainability in singing, and I think that’s so important. I don’t just teach MT singing, though! I can teach you to sing in any style you like: from pop, to rock, to country. Just tell me your goals and favourite music and we can work on whatever you like!

For instrumental tutoring, I put a big emphasis on musicianship. Don’t worry, I won’t overload you with music theory! But I will give you the tools you need to be able to improve in your own time and make you not just a better guitarist/clarinetist/banjoist (not sure that last one is a word…) but a better musician overall, able to figure out all your favourite songs without sheet music or tabs (eventually!). We’ll start with the basics, and work our way up to your goals.
