Hello! My name is Melanie Bart. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to the United States 24 years ago. It was here that I discovered my true passion: Montessori education. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with students of all ages, helping them grow not only academically but also personally—guiding them with the principles of independence, curiosity, and respect that are at the heart of the Montessori philosophy. Today, I’m proud to be part of a Montessori bilingual school, where I continue to teach and support students in both English and Spanish. As a native Spanish speaker with formal teaching experience from my home country, I bring both cultural richness and linguistic accuracy to every lesson I teach. My mission is to create a learning environment where students feel safe, empowered, and inspired. My Spanish Lessons: Montessori-Based Approach by a Native Speaker As a native Spanish speaker with professional teaching experience in my home country, I bring both fluency and a deep cultural foundation to my lessons. I’ve supported students of various levels, helping them improve not only their grammar and vocabulary but also their confidence and curiosity. My approach is grounded in Montessori principles, where the learner is at the center of the experience. Teaching Method & Techniques (Montessori-Inspired) I use a Montessori-based approach, which means I prioritize independent exploration, hands-on learning, and respect for each student’s natural learning pace. My goal is to cultivate curiosity and confidence, not just memorization. Key techniques I use include: Self-directed learning: I guide students to take ownership of their progress through choices and reflection. Multi-sensory activities: I use visual, auditory, and tactile materials (games, stories, images, real-world objects). Real-life language use: Practical communication is central—students engage in conversations that mirror real situations. Prepared environment: I design lessons that offer structure but also flexibility, so learners feel safe to explore and make mistakes. Observation & adaptation: Like in Montessori classrooms, I observe closely to understand each student’s needs and tailor lessons accordingly. A Typical Lesson Plan While each lesson is personalized, a typical 1-hour lesson might look like this: Connection & Review (5–10 min) Informal conversation or a reflection activity to connect with prior learning. Introduction of New Concept (10–15 min) Guided discovery of new vocabulary, grammar, or cultural topic using real-life examples or materials. Exploration & Practice (20–25 min) Interactive activities like role-plays, storytelling, games, or guided writing—designed for independent or paired learning. Reflection & Application (5–10 min) The student reflects on what they learned, sets a personal goal, and receives suggestions for self-guided practice before the next session.
