About Elias
I have been teaching since 2008. My teaching career started in South Korea, where I taught for 8 years. I taught elementary, middle, high school, and university students over the course of my time in South Korea, as well as industry professionals who were looking to develop their English skills.
I returned to the United States with my wife (who is South African) in order to begin working on my PhD from Southern Illinois University--where I also taught, became a Writing Studies Mentor, and worked in the Writing Center. My dissertation is available Open Access if you search for my name and "Oiko-Logic in Literature."
After my PhD, I became the head of the Multilingual Learners Department at Oak Park High School--where I taught every basic high school subject over the course of five years.
My specialization became helping people connect with material that seems disparate from their life experiences. During my time at Oak Park I received a lifetime teaching certificate from the state of Missouri, a TEFL certification from Missouri Western State University, and the "Culture of Excellence" award for my teaching.
My BA, MA, and PhD are all in English literature, so I have extensive experience with reading, writing, and presentations

I have a variety of teaching experiences from American and South Korean universities, to high school, after school academies, and private lessons.
I specialize in making materials accessible through various teaching and learning strategies.
The two basic methods I employ involve either
1) Responding to immediate needs from students/clients (editing, content-specific support, etc.)
If you have a project, proposal, document, or assignment that you are struggling with, I can help you organize, plan, draft, proofread, and/or edit whatever you're working on. I have extensive experience with creating presentations, writing documents, and considering your audience. These lessons are generally charged by the hour.
2) Creating long-term units for developing skills (generally for younger learners)
If you have a subject that you will need longer-term tutoring with, or if you have difficulty connecting with your teacher's methods/language, or if you have a young learner in need of dedicated tutoring, I can develop long-term units for skill development. These lessons are generally charged by the unit.
