About Ahana
I am a student from the UK, currently studying at a university in France, where I intend on majoring in Film with Creative Writing. I am also a part-time freelance writer.
I have a background in languages, having taught myself A-Level French and Spanish, and studied Sanskrit and Latin to GCSE. I love all aspects of language, from the technicalities of grammar and syntax, to speech and colloquialism, as well as literary expression of all sorts.
I currently tutor secondary school students in conversational Spanish, and have taught English as a second language in the past.

Before starting lessons, I offer a free session where I discuss with prospective students their current level, their individual needs and their learning goals. I then work to come up with a bespoke scheme that caters to their specific requirements.
Usually, this involves covering a topic in the relevant language and learning grammar within the context of the topic. I offer new vocabulary and additional resources (e.g. videos/articles) which students can refer back to during their private study. If students have any topic preferences, I love to hear their ideas and implement them!
My lessons focus mainly on conversation, as, for me, this is the most important element of language learning. Exposure and practice is the best way to gain confidence, and so I like my lessons to serve as an immersive listening and speaking exercise. Students can ask as many questions and make as many mistakes as they like. The aim is to train the ear and familiarise them with the sounds and nuances of the language. We then build upon this foundation by broadening our vocabulary and delving into more complex and idiomatic sentence structures, expressions etc.
I will often use pen and paper to demonstrate grammar points, and students are welcome to note anything down if they so wish. I also recommend keeping a log of any new vocabulary that arises.
Depending on the student's level, I will recommend novels, poems, films, songs and other goodies that they can apply their learning to.
My lessons tend to be relaxed and student-led, and I try my best to make learning an enjoyable experience. I'm extremely receptive to my students and will check in with them regularly to see how they're finding the learning process. I myself love learning new languages (I'm trying to learn Hindi and Portuguese at the moment) and it's a joy to be able to help others to do the same.
