About Jocelyn

Bonjour! I'm Jojo from Normandy.

Imagine learning French with a passionate native speaker who makes the journey fun and effective. As a qualified French teacher specializing in foreign languages, I bring years of experience and a unique approach to language learning.

Growing up in a family of educators, teaching is in my DNA. With a Master's in Education and a background as an international gymnast, I've been connecting with and guiding individuals since 2015. My diverse work experiences have honed my communication and interpersonal skills, which I bring directly to my engaging lessons.

My adventure took me to Latin America, where I spent time in Argentina and now call Brazil home. Speaking fluent French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese allows me to understand your learning journey firsthand. My experience teaching with "AlterNativa Francesa" solidified my expertise in creating dynamic online courses, complete with interactive materials in a complete Google Classroom.

More than just a teacher, I'm someone who loves sharing knowledge and connecting with people from all walks of life.
Learning French should be an enjoyable experience, and I'm here to make that happen for you!

  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher motivated you to learn it?

I speak French fluently because it is my native language. I was born in Normandy into a family of educators, where teaching has always been part of everyday life. I grew up surrounded by the French language and culture, and naturally brought this into my professional life.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

For me, two figures who strongly represent French culture are Coluche and Daniel Balavoine. In the 1980s, they were powerful voices during a socially and politically challenging period in France.
Coluche, through his sharp humor and roles in cinema, used comedy to denounce inequality and defend social causes.
Daniel Balavoine, through music, expressed social struggles, injustice, and the desire for a more united and supportive society with great intensity and sensitivity.
Both embody the passion, social commitment, and spirit of protest that are deeply rooted in French identity, and they show how art can be a powerful force for change.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

One French tradition I especially love is the apéro. Whether it’s before meals, after work, with family, or with friends, the apéro is always a special moment.
In France, there’s an important rule when making a toast: saying “chin-chin” while looking the other person directly in the eyes. It’s a sign of respect and a social ritual that I love sharing with my students.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

Learning French is important for many reasons. It is a beautiful language and also a Latin language, which helps Portuguese, Spanish, or Italian speakers better understand the origins and evolution of their own languages.
It is fascinating from an etymological and cultural perspective. French also opens doors to travel, studies, professional opportunities, and unique life experiences. And thanks to its many specific sounds, it’s also a great “workout” for the mouth!
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

The main difficulty is usually pronunciation and especially writing, because French is not a phonetic language. The same sound can be written in 20 to 25 different ways, which can be quite confusing.
However, I always remind my students that first and foremost, a language is meant for communication. That’s why pronunciation, reading, and writing are worked on in class in a relaxed, practical, and enjoyable way, with patience and dynamic activities that make the learning process feel natural.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

I have many funny stories with students! Once, for example, a student wanted to say “I envy you,” thinking of the English expression, but ended up saying in French “j’ai envie de toi,” which actually means “I desire you” in a very sexual sense!
We laughed a lot, and this story became one of my students’ favorites. My classes are full of these light, spontaneous moments — every lesson brings something new.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I have lived in several regions of France and traveled extensively around the world. As an international gymnast, I spent a lot of time in Russia and lived for a while in Moscow. I also traveled widely across Europe.
At the age of 30, I set off on a road trip through South America, traveling through Brazil and Argentina. I ended up living two years in Argentina and have now been living in Brazil for over two and a half years, where I am in a relationship with a Brazilian woman.
I have many Brazilian friends and still keep close ties with my French family and friends. This multicultural life inspired me to create my own language school, bringing together French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

What makes me a Superprof is the combination of the 6 languages I speak, my passion for teaching, my international experience, and the very complete learning structure I offer my students.
In addition to dynamic and personalized lessons, I provide exclusive access to a Google Classroom with 10 modules, each containing 20 to 40 lessons, covering all aspects of French: grammar, vocabulary, phonetics, listening and reading comprehension, everyday situations, and conversation.
In total, there are over 400 homework assignments, along with interactive materials, PDFs, flashcards, quizzes, and practical activities.
I am a dedicated, patient, and motivated teacher, and I truly believe that learning French should be a fun, effective, and motivating experience. I make every lesson a light, engaging moment filled with real progress.
