About Jana

I’m Jana, a native German speaker from near Hamburg. I teach German at a German Saturday school in London and have supported children at a bilingual German-English nursery.

I studied Scandinavian Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin and lived in Sweden for nine years, so I know what it’s like to learn a language as an adult. Before teaching, I worked for many years as a nurse, which taught me patience and how to explain things clearly.

I’d love to help you on your German journey!

About the lesson

Want to learn German, or help your child keep up the family language? My lessons are friendly, patient and built around you.

Children: playful lessons with games, stories and songs, for kids from German-speaking families or school pupils
Beginners: clear, step-by-step basics with explanations in English
Conversation: relaxed practice to build confidence
Work and everyday life: practical German for moving, working or family

A typical lesson: every lesson follows a clear, simple structure, so you always know where you are and can see your progress:

- Warm-up: a short chat at your level to get you speaking.
- Focus topic: new words, a grammar point, or a real-life situation like ordering food or writing an email.
- Practice: we use what you’ve just learnt in conversation and exercises.
- Review: a quick recap of the key points, plus optional homework.

I teach in person in East and Central London, or online. Your first lesson is free.

I’ve known Jana for many years, and she taught me Swedish herself. Her lessons were patient, clear and genuinely fun! She lived and travelled in Sweden and knows exactly where learners get stuck. Highly recommended!
