About Fotini

I’m Fotini, a native Greek speaker with a lifelong relationship with language, literature and the humanities.

I studied Byzantine and Modern Greek Language and Literature at the University of Cyprus, with studies extending across Ancient, Byzantine and Modern Greek, Latin, literature, history, philosophy and drama.

Over the years, my professional life has taken me through education, journalism and editing in Cyprus and Australia. I’ve taught children and adults, worked with language in very different settings, and spent decades doing what I still enjoy most: learning, questioning, explaining and communicating ideas.

I’m now also studying Law, which feels less like a change of direction and more like another side of the same curiosity — language, interpretation, reasoning and understanding why things mean what they mean.

That curiosity is also why I teach. I love the moment when something that seemed confusing suddenly makes sense to a student. For me, teaching isn’t about producing the “right answer”. It’s about helping someone reach the point where they understand how they got there.

About the lesson

I don’t teach from a fixed script, because no two students learn in exactly the same way.

We start with what you already know, where you’re getting stuck and what you actually want from your Greek. From there, I shape the lessons around you.

You may be starting Greek from the beginning, reconnecting with your Greek heritage, wanting to speak more confidently with family, or needing support with school or university. You may already speak Greek but want to strengthen your grammar, vocabulary, reading or writing. The lesson changes according to the person in front of me.

I don’t want you simply memorising answers or rules. I want you to understand what you’re learning so that you can actually use it. When something isn’t clicking, I explain it differently, make the connections clearer and keep going until it does.

Lessons are available for children, teenagers and adults, from beginners through to advanced students.
