About Tomo

I’m originally from Tokyo and have been living in New Zealand for many years. I’m a qualified chef in New Zealand, so I love cooking and Japanese food!
Before moving to New Zealand, I worked for travel and airline companies in Japan, so I’m also great at helping people plan trips to Japan. I can share tips not only about popular tourist destinations, but also about local areas, hidden gems and places that many tourists don’t know about.
I absolutely love music and know the Tokyo music scene quite well!
I’m also a laughter yoga instructor, so I love creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere. My lessons are always filled with smiles and laughter!

About the lesson

I’m a native Japanese speaker and qualified chef living in New Zealand, and I love helping people enjoy Japanese language and culture in a relaxed and friendly way.
My lessons focus on practical Japanese conversation rather than simply memorizing grammar. We can talk about everyday life, travel, food, cooking, Japanese culture and topics that genuinely interest you.
I also have many years of experience working for travel and airline companies in Japan, so I’d be happy to help you plan your trip to Japan and share practical travel tips along the way.
A typical lesson is 50–60 minutes, but I’m happy to adapt each lesson to your goals and level.
My lessons are suitable for beginners, intermediate learners, travelers, food lovers, and anyone who wants to feel more confident speaking Japanese. Children and adults are welcome.
I want my lessons to feel like having a friendly conversation with a Japanese person, while naturally learning useful Japanese along the way.

My rate is NZ$40 per hour for a 50–60 minute online lesson. I offer relaxed and personalized lessons based on your level, interests and goals. Whether you want to practice everyday conversation, prepare for a trip to Japan, learn about Japanese culture, or simply enjoy speaking with a native Japanese speaker, we can tailor each lesson to you. I’m happy to work with both beginners and intermediate learners, and I aim to make every lesson friendly, practical and fun.
