About Estella
Hi, I’m Estella, a native Mandarin speaker currently at Berkeley. I enjoy sharing my language and culture and helping learners build confidence step by step.
I have experience supporting children with reading, which has taught me to listen carefully, explain patiently, and adapt to different learning needs. I bring that same care to my Mandarin lessons, whether I’m working with a younger student (from elementary to high school).
I prepare lessons thoughtfully, set clear and realistic goals, and provide regular feedback. My aim is to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and practicing Mandarin at their own pace.

My approach is patient, practical, and tailored to each learner’s age, interests, and goals. As a native Mandarin speaker, I use clear explanations, everyday examples, and guided practice to help students feel comfortable using the language. For children, I include stories, pictures, and simple games.
A typical lesson begins with a short review, followed by a small set of new words or sentence patterns. We then practise through reading, role-play, or conversation. At the end, we review what the student has learned and choose a manageable activity to practise between lessons.
My experience supporting children with reading has taught me to adjust my pace, encourage participation, and respond patiently when a learner finds something difficult. I adapt lessons as students progress and provide regular feedback, including updates to parents when teaching children.
My lessons are suitable for elementary and middle school students, as well as adult beginners who want to learn basic Mandarin preparing travel to China. No previous knowledge of Mandarin is required.
