About Cristina

Hi, I'm Cristina! I'm a bilingual Spanish and English speaker from Venezuela, with a psychology degree from Spain and current graduate studies in clinical mental health counseling in the U.S. I've taught and tutored across three countries, so I know how to adapt to different learning styles and comfort levels.

I teach Spanish through real conversation and cultural context, not just memorization — and I teach psychology by connecting theory to how people actually think and behave. My goal is always to make lessons feel approachable, not intimidating.

I take tutoring seriously: I show up prepared, I'm patient, and I care about real progress, not just checking a box. Whether you're a beginner or brushing up before an exam, I'll meet you where you're at.

Here's a draft in your voice — warm, conversational, a little reflective, not overly polished:

My approach to teaching is pretty simple: I meet you where you are. I grew up speaking Spanish in Venezuela, lived in Spain, and studied psychology there, so I've experienced language learning from both sides — as a native speaker and as someone who had to adapt to new places and new ways of thinking. That mix is really what shapes how I teach.

For Spanish, I focus on conversation first. Grammar matters, but it clicks so much faster when it's tied to something you'd actually say. I like using real-life situations, cultural context, and topics you're genuinely interested in — whether that's travel, everyday conversation, or just building confidence to speak without freezing up. I'm patient with mistakes because that's literally how language sticks.

For psychology, I lean on my background as a grad student in clinical mental health counseling. I can help break down theories, research methods, or concepts in a way that connects to real human behavior instead of just memorizing definitions. If you're prepping for an exam, working through a paper, or just trying to actually understand a concept (not just pass the test), I can help make it make sense.

A typical lesson usually starts with a quick check-in on where you're at and what you need that day, then we dive into whatever the focus is — practice conversation, review material, work through practice questions, whatever fits. I always leave room to slow down if something isn't clicking, because that's more important to me than rushing through a plan.

What sets me apart: I've lived in three countries and studied in two languages, so I understand what it's like to be the person trying to catch up, translate in your head, or feel behind. I bring that same patience and understanding into how I teach — no judgment, no pressure, just steady progress.

These lessons are for: middle school through college-level students learning Spanish (beginner to advanced), and high school or college students studying psychology — whether that's intro psych, developmental, abnormal psych, or research methods. I'm also happy to help with conversational Spanish for adults who just want to build real-world fluency.
