About Ruihana
Kia ora, e te whānau. Ko Ruihana tōku ingoa. I look forward to providing you with a range of mātauranga Māori (indigenous knowledge) in order to gain a deeper understanding of the Māori language and culture as a whole.
If you're looking for a fun, non-judgemental, and safe learning environment where you are allowed to make mistakes, but also have the desire and open heart to work towards ironing them out as you go along, nau mai, haramai.
If you're keen to upskill in your conversational language by learning grammatical structures ranging from basic, intermediate, through to advanced levels, nau mai, haramai.
If you are willing to work hard toward gaining a deeper understanding of the culture and its many intricacies, through learning about whakaaro Māori we also open our hearts and minds to a more indigenous and native way of thinking, being and doing. If this sounds like you, nau mai, haramai.
I welcome you to take on the challenge to either begin your reo journey, or to continue on your reo journey wherever you may be. Let's work together to achieve a more inclusive and bicultural Aotearoa. The future of our reo is in your hands. Take it, nurture it, and allow it to blossom.
Tēnā kōtou katoa.

Ko Ruihana Te Nahu tēnei e mihi nei, e whakamānawa atu nei. Tēnā kōtou katoa.
Kia ora and greetings to you all who are hungry to learn more about this treasured language, and this precious culture.
My name is Ruihana Te Nahu and I am a descendant from Te Arawa and the East Coast. I have been extremely fortunate to have been born and raised as a native speaker of te reo Māori within the beauty of Kōhanga Reo and Kura Kaupapa Māori.
After dedicating 10 years of my adult life to teaching our tamariki mokopuna within Kōhanga Reo and Puna Reo, and after gaining the confidence that our tamariki today are in very good hands with the support of quality Kōhanga Reo, Puna Reo and Kura Kaupapa Māori, I have since turned my focus to those who weren't as lucky to be raised within the dense thickness of te reo and tikanga Māori. I now serve my reo and culture by sharing them with people like yourselves who are keen and eager to delve into the depths of our beautiful language and culture.
I provide a fun, non-judgemental, and safe learning environment where we are allowed to make mistakes but also work towards ironing them out as we delve deeper into the reo. In my classes, we learn proper pronunciation strategies that allow us to work toward unlearning mispronunciations and develop a more native sounding tongue; we learn basic to advanced level grammatical structures working towards conversational language; we also work toward whakaaro Māori which allows us to open our hearts and minds to a more indigenous and native way of thinking, being and doing.
I welcome you to take on the challenge to either begin your reo journey, or to continue on your reo journey wherever you may be. Let's work together to achieve a more inclusive and bicultural Aotearoa. The future of our reo is in your hands. Take it, nurture it, and allow it to blossom.
I leave you with a whakatauākī (proverb) to hopefully inspire and light a spark within your ngākau to take on this challenge:
Katohia ngā rau o onamata
Katohia ngā rau o nāia
Raraungia he kete mātauranga
Mō ngā uri o anamata
Gather the leaves of the past
Gather the leaves of the present
Weave forth a basket of knowledge
For the generations of the future
Tēnā kōtou, tēnā kōtou, tēnā kōtou katoa.
Nāku noa,
Nā Ruihana Te Nahu
