• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  Tamil is one of the oldest living languages in the world. It has a rich literary heritage, unique script and beautiful pronounciation that makes it truly distinctive. I developed an interest in Tamil from an early age because it is not only my mother tongue but also a language that connect me to my cultural and traditional roots. Over time my passion grew and I started teaching spoken Tamil for complete beginners as well as academic Tamil for children.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  Attending the Tamil sangam event which happened in my district opened my eyes to the timeless beauty and cultural depth of the Tamil language. That moment sparked a passion in me, a passion that have driven me to share and teach this remarkable language to others.

• How does your work help society?

  Teaching Tamil gives me a great Joy because I feel I am preserving a part of our heritage for the next generation. Surprisingly many of my students are either complete beginners or children of Tamil, living abroad who wish to reconnect with their roots. It is deeply rewarding to see Tamil Transcend borders bringing people together through language and culture.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  My school Tamil teachers are my role model.They taught me this language from scratch and inspired me to understand its essence and appreciate the beauty it holds.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Outside of teaching, I enjoy watching Tamil films with strong social messages and engaging in mandala art.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  My students' feedback fuels my confidence and reminds me that I have made a real impact. And also it impacted positively on my personal life at my lows.
  
  Apart from Tamil, I also teach short courses like PTE Academic. One student initially failed to get the desired score. But with a refined strategy succeeded on her next attempt. she credited my support and methods which gave me a deep sense of contentment.
  Another incident close to my heart is about the Tamil student from South Africa a year after her classes ended,she visited Tamilnadu and messaged me. It was overwhelming that she still remembered me.
