About Rachel

I am Rachel, a STEM IGCSE and CAIE A-Level graduate, currently pursuing Chemical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). As a student who required extra time and guidance to fully grasp foundational concepts, I experienced firsthand the impact that patient, clear, and empathetic teaching can have on learning outcomes. This experience shaped my approach to teaching. Because of this, I design my lessons around strategies that I know are effective from the learner’s perspective: breaking complex concepts into manageable parts, reinforcing core fundamentals, and tailoring explanations to each student’s pace and learning style. Rather than focusing on rote memorization, I prioritize building confidence and genuine understanding, enabling students to apply concepts independently. Ultimately, I aim to help more students achieve the same clarity and progress I did by providing structured, supportive, and personalized STEM tuition that meets them where they are and helps them move forward with confidence.

About the lesson

Sciences:
Readings will be assigned every week to be completed before the sessions. During the actual tutoring slot -
1. Students will first “teach me”/explain their understanding of the concepts, as well as clarify any misconceptions
2. I will ask my own questions to further assess their understanding, then explain when needed
3. We will work on topical past questions within a set time limit
4. On the spot marking and discussion of corrections
5. Monthly quizzes made of past questions to summarise learnings

Maths:
1. I will prepare an explanation sheet of the chapter to ease understanding
2. Students then work on a compiled list of practices to understand the topics, I will answer any queries or clarifications
3. At the end of the session there will be a “pop quiz” within a limited time frame to test their understanding and urge the skill of fast problem solving
* students can ask me any questions about their homework
