About Colin
Piano and drum teacher with 11 years of experience teaching privately and in a school setting. My experience as a composer also informs my teaching method and I seek to help students understand the "why" of music in addition to how to play.
I incorporate knowledge of music theory, history, and contemporary music into lessons. I also have a passion for helping students hone their technique and their listening skills. My lessons are focused on helping students be comfortable playing for fun or in a concert setting and also preparing them to play with others and to record their own music.

I utilize a lesson plan that is individualized for each student. For example, a beginner might start out with lesson book and theory book, and supplement learning with listening and rhythmic assignments. With 26 years of drumming experience, I incorporate rhythm and coordination skills in keyboard lessons.
I encourage creative students to explore improvisation and improving their technique through creative and engaging exercises. Music styles are not limited to classical piano, and include electronic music, jazz, pop, and other contemporary music.
Specialized lessons for adult beginners include learning music reading, technique exercises, and basic music theory to supplement keyboard skills.
