About Laura

I am a recent graduate of the Master of Teaching program at OISE, associated with the University of Toronto. Prior to that, I earned a Bachelor in Music Cognition at McMaster University. I have taught private lessons for voice, violin, and piano students for 8 years, and have had success with students of all ages! I have also studied French education, and look forward to helping anglophone students develop a strong understanding and passion for the French language.

About the lesson

I work individually with students to create realistic goals for their lessons. Whether the focus of the lesson is to improve technical skills, develop confidence, or just to have fun with music, I do whatever I can to ensure that students can meet their goals while being supported in a positive, friendly environment.

In a typical lesson, I will check in with students to see how they're feeling, what they've practiced, and what questions they may have. Then, I ask students to play through their pieces. Together, we discuss areas of improvement from the previous lesson, and areas of future improvement to focus their practice. I do my best to always include a mini theory lesson relating to a theory concept in one of the student's pieces. Towards the end of the lesson, I help create concrete achievement goals for students to work towards before their next lesson. I also collect information about their musical interests, which allows me to find level-appropriate repertoire that is especially interest for each individual student. This structure is entirely adjustable to accommodate for different ages, levels of musical experience, and exceptionalities. All students are different, and their lessons should be, too!

Details

Cancellation policy
If a lesson is cancelled without a minimum of 24 hours notice, 50% of the lesson fee will apply.
If a student doesn't show up to their scheduled lesson, 75% of the lesson fee will apply.
A one-time exception will be granted to students if the above conditions are violated.
