About Matthew

-12+ years' experience playing bass in a range of bands and genres.
- Currently play bass and electric guitar in an Edinburgh-based jazz band called FERNS (see YouTube vid below for performance).
- PVG certified
- Grade 7 Double Bass; Grade 5 piano; Grade 5 music theory
- Experienced in teaching children piano

Music is one of my great passions. I also have a PhD in psychology and researched how people learn. So in teaching music I am combining my love for music with my interests in learning and teaching.

I am very happy to pass on my knowledge and learned experiences from my many live performance experiences.

About the lesson

Wanting to learn the bass, piano, or guitar? You've come to the right place for flexible, fun, and interactive lessons!

I have 12+ years' experience playing bass in a range of bands and genres. Currently play in an Edinburgh-based jazz band called FERNS. I have a Grade 7 in upright double bass and a Grade 5 in piano and music theory. I am self-taught in electric and acoustic guitar and have played at Open Mics and in bands.

Open to teaching bass, guitar (or both) at beginners' -> intermediate level.

Beyond performing and teaching bass, I have 3 years' experience teaching piano to children (from 4 to 8 years) so I can teach piano to young learners (or guitar or bass if they want!).

I tend to make my lessons tailored to the needs of the learner. We can decide together what you want out of the lessons and how you want to proceed. I love to jam so I will always try to incorporate playing multiple instruments together in my lessons.
