About Ong
Hello! I’m Ong Lin Wei, a diploma graduate from NAFA and an award-winning composer with over 2 years of teaching experience. I am passionate about helping students develop a strong foundation in music theory, composition, and performance skills. My teaching approach combines structured ABRSM syllabus preparation with practical techniques inspired by the Kodály Method, including sight-singing and keyboard skills. I believe in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to each student’s needs and goals. I teach music theory and composition using a structured, step-by-step method based on the ABRSM syllabus, incorporating sight-singing and keyboard skills to reinforce learning. I draw inspiration from the Kodály Method, which emphasizes aural training and musical understanding through singing and movement, making lessons engaging and effective. Each lesson typically lasts 1 hour, allowing enough time to cover theory concepts, practice exercises, and interactive activities like sight-singing and keyboard playing. With 2 years of teaching experience, I have worked mainly with students aged 7 and above, from Grade 1 theory level onwards. I also offer lessons in composition and basic orchestration for students interested in creating their own music. My goal is to nurture musical confidence and a deep understanding of music fundamentals, tailored to each student’s pace and interests.
