About Benjamin

Hello there, I'm Benjamin :)

I'm a philosophy student and an avid chess player and coach.

In my first year of university, I found that teaching is a brilliant way to get to know people, help them get to where they want to go, and have fun!

I was already into the game of chess for many years, but I started to teach at different primary and secondary schools in Montreal. With this experience, I then moved on to private lessons. I have now more than two years of experience as a chess coach.

I would love to help you reach your goals in chess!

About the lesson

Hello future students!

I have experience teaching chess to kids and adults of all levels, so I can adapt my classes to most students' profiles.

As a chess coach, I know that every student is different, and that is why I mostly work around a student's preferences and goals to shape our lessons and keep it fun!

My approach to teaching chess is best described as a personalized learning process.

First, I'll go through a multitude of exercises with a student while he/she is verbalizing their thought processes. This enables me to understand how the student thinks and where he/she stands in their learning process.

Second, I'll organize the first couple of lessons based on the weaker aspects of the student's game. This enables a good foundation for all facets of the game.

Third, I'll go forward with a general lesson plan that the student and I create with the student's preferences, style, weaknesses, and strengths.

Generally, these are things you will see in your classes :

Basic checkmates, basic endgames, how to approach tactics, specific tactics, opening principles, middle game principles and ideas, endgames principles and ideas, positional play, pawn structures, GM games analysis, and student's games analysis.

I offer classes to any level of chess up to 1800 FIDE.
