About Leyton

I completed a four years honors degree in Trinity, Camarthen,Wales,UK.
In 1995 i went to teach in Cairo,Egypt.
In 1997 I taught in Dubai for a year.
Next I went to teach in Singapore.(1 year)
Then onto Berlin / Germany for 2 years.
I returned to the Uk and taught as a supply teacher,from 13 years through to 19 years.
I have taught GCSE and A level. I have also taught pupils with a huge range of special needs,including autism,down,physical and mental special needs,behavioral.
Currently, I work as a private tutor, in maths and English.

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have over fifteen years teaching experience, including six years teaching overseas. Nine years of varied teaching on the supply register.Working in primary schools and secondary schools .I have also worked in special needs schools, both primary and secondary.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes, full Enhanced CRB.

Trinity College Camarthen,Wales.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I am working with pupils who need to gain extra knowledge and guidance.I supply locally in KS1/KS2 as well as having some KS3 students.

About the lesson

Hi,I'm Leyton. I have taught in 5 countries for over 25 years. I use guided Guided discovery teaching method,encouraging the answer to come from the pupil,not me. Sometimes I use command ,to make sure the facts, are understood.
I will try to make it fun and informative.
As my pupil is learning,I am learning how they understand. To build The knowledge required for their stage.

Hello,I have taught a range of subjects from Key stage 1 through to Key stage 4.I aim to give encouragement and guidance where needed.In order for my pupils to reach their goals.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach a range of subjects, including Mathematics and English.I can teach the whole curriculum in Key stage 1 and 2.I also teach online 1 to 1 or groups.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a Bed Hons degree in Key stage 1 and 2 although my experience has taken me through teaching to A level.Including key stage 3 in Mathematics and English.

- How much do you charge?

30 pounds per hour.

- Where do you teach?

I am registered with Swansea Council and Neath and Port Talbot Council as a supply teacher.I will come to your home at your convenience.Swansea,Neath,Port Talbot and Morriston area's.

- When are you available?

Seven days a week. Evenings and weekends.Possibly certain mornings and afternoons.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

From 3 to 11 yrs,up to 18 yrs in certain circumstances.Also adult basic skills and English.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I aim to give my pupils a good grounding in English and Mathematics.Which will build the blocks for Key stage 3/4.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I teach English online as well as mathematics, through Wiziq.com,which is 100% Free,it has webcam / microphone and an interactive white board for a full teaching experience.
I can also teach through Skype MSN,YAHOO.
All payments paid through Paypal. A US university claims learning online is significantly more effective.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

Hello,I am Leyton,although I am Mr Lloyd in school.I will try to make your learning fun and interesting.There will be thinking games, chalk boards and chalk.For writing and drawing.Lets help save the tree's,I can also teach you how to play chess or guitar,if you want.

We have Leyton for home tuition for my son aged 8. He has Dyspraxia and learning difficulties. Our son enjoys having lessons as he makes learning fun, which keeps his concentration. Leyton is easy to keep in touch with and always arrives on time. A great tutor!

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I was first asked to tutor privately in 1998 by the Sultan of Dubai. After this, I taught in schools and also tutored privately, both in person and online.
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I offer a range of subjects, maths and English as well as most subjects up to KS3.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
Mr Gould inspired me in secondary school. His planning and interest generated a passion for me in his subject.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
A tutor needs: patience, good listener, supportive, caring, flexible, well prepared and constantly adapting.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
Slowly , slowly catchee monkey (B . Powell). Keep working, you will get there.
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Probably the hardest part of tutoring is learning, gauging and understanding how my students attain knowledge and building on this.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different.
My passion in tutoring is variety, subjects, age of students, setting and achieving goals.
