About Sara

I have the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), the International House Certificate in Teaching Very Young Learners and over 13 years of experience teaching English to kids and teenagers right through to adults of all levels and ages both online and face to face. I also have a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish and a master’s degree in specialised and technical translation, so languages have always been one of my passions. And, last but not least, I’ve recently completed a post-graduate degree in psychology, which has allowed me to understand how the human mind works. In fact, teaching is all about psychology and understanding your students’ needs, adapting your teaching techniques to meet them and connecting with the pupils you have in your class. My hobbies include: nutrition, travelling and kids. I have one of my own, which probably has a lot to do with it. In 2007, I travelled five continents in 15 months, which was one of my best experiences to date and definitely one I intend to utilise in all areas of my life. I got to hike seven kilometres into the Amazon Jungle and scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef of Australia! Another hobby is of course teaching, and especially teaching very young kids. I love my job as it’s very rewarding and a lot of fun! Teaching online is amazing because I get to meet people from all over the world and learn about lots of different cultures. We are going to have lots of fun together because when we have fun, we learn! Although kids, and especially very young kids are my niche, I also have over 15 years of experience teaching teenagers and adults of all levels both online and face to face.

About the lesson

Children begin to gain confidence when communicating in English. I recreate stories that combine fantasy with everyday life, while ensuring they match the interests of children of this age. We start working on reading comprehension with the help of animated PowerPoint presentations. Oral interaction and communication is still the main focus. Soon they start to become aware of how the language works and begin to come to grips with basic grammar. We also start to perfect oral communication and discuss topics which they can relate to, such as animals, the planet or the environment, as well as facing global challenges and needs. As the children advance, they increase their knowledge of English and perfect the grammar that we have worked on so far. They also begin to learn to talk about themselves and their interests.

Llevo más de dos años dando una hora a la semana de clases online con Sara y no puedo estar más contento. Es una profesora muy cercana, paciente y motivadora, que hace que las clases se pasen volando (y me lo paso bien..). Gracias a Sara he mejorado muchísimo mi nivel de inglés, sobre todo en fluidez, vocabulario, pronunciación y confianza al hablar, tanto en un entorno de trabajo, en reuniones y presentaciones que he tenido que hacer con personas de otras nacionalidades, como en en viajes, etc... Se nota que se implica de verdad y adapta las clases a lo que necesitas. La recomiendo totalmente. A día de hoy sigo con las clases y continuo mejorando.

I have been taking one hour of online classes a week with Sara for over two years now, and I couldn't be happier. She is a very approachable, patient and motivating teacher who makes the classes fly by (and I have a great time...). Thanks to Sara, I have greatly improved my English, especially in terms of fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation and confidence when speaking, both in a work environment, in meetings and presentations I have had to give with people of other nationalities, and when travelling, etc. You can tell that she is really committed and adapts the classes to your needs. I highly recommend her. I am still taking classes and continuing to improve.
