About Benjamin

Hello! My name is Ben and I have been teaching private one-on-one lessons to kids of all ages for over 15 years. My background is in teaching music lessons. More recently I have been teaching Reading and Spelling skills to children who struggle with Dyslexia. I have received my Dyslexia Practitioner 1 Certification in the Orton Gillingham method of Multisensory Learning Education through the Children's Dyslexia Center of New York (90 Lecture hours, 120+ teaching hours). I specialize in teaching students with Dyslexia but the Orton Gillingham method has proven to be an effective tool for all kids learning to read. I am a literacy advocate and believe that reading and literacy set the foundation for our children to be successful and live engaged, happy, and fulfilling lives. I find great meaning and purpose through helping kids discover their own love of reading and have found the Orton Gillingham approach to be highly effective in achieving these goals. The method is highly structured and customized to each student's experience level and learning needs. I make sure to keep the lessons fun and light-hearted while still covering all the necessary requirements for improving reading and literacy. About the lesson

Through extensive research in Dyslexia and the science of reading over the past several decades, we now have the tools and methodologies through peer reviewed clinical studies that offer dyslexic children a path to success in reading and literacy through the Orton Gillingham method of multisensory learning education.

My classes focus on the 5 main pillars of reading and literacy which are phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. These concepts are taught in a fun, engaging, and progressively systematic way that uses the Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic senses to solidify and gain fluency with these concepts. Each lesson is specifically tailored to the students currently skill level and addresses any gaps they may have. I have found these methods to be highly effective in improving my student's reading and literacy skills. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to set up a lesson!
