About Ryan
I am a current PhD student researching biologically inspired AI. Before this, I graduated with an MMath from the University of Oxford. My passion for mathematics began with a love of problem solving and finding order in the apparent chaos of nature.
One of my favourite things about maths is the hidden connections it reveals, and I try to bring this into my teaching wherever possible while keeping explanations accessible and suited to the student's level. I find that seeing an idea from different angles can often help students understand a concept they were initially struggling with.
I have experience teaching mathematics at both A-level and first-year university level. I am happy working with students who need to strengthen their foundations, as well as those who are interested in going beyond the standard curriculum and exploring more advanced mathematics.

My lessons can be tailored to your specific needs and goals. I focus on developing a genuine understanding of the subject and on learning how to work through problems, rather than simply memorising formulae. I particularly believe in introducing motivating examples before abstract symbols and definitions. This helps students understand the why behind a method, making the mathematics more intuitive and easier to apply to unfamiliar problems.
Lessons can include theory, problem-solving techniques, or working through past papers, depending on what would be most useful for you. I am happy to adapt the pace and level of the lessons to suit your background and goals.
I currently have experience teaching both A-level and first-year university mathematics. I am also happy to help with more advanced mathematics or A-level physics.
