About Joshua
My favourite thing about teaching is that lightbulb moment when everything starts to click for the student. In busy classrooms where not much attention can be paid to the individual, it can be hard to get every little thing. Not only am I here to tutor a student, but I also like act as a mentor to discuss future goals and career prospects.

With such a lot of experience tutoring many different students, my methods vary considerably to get the most out of each student. I have now focused most of my tutoring on GCSE age students, where I believe the most progress can be made in terms of academic performance and attitude to the work. Rather than focussing on individual homework tasks, I prefer to help students gain a true understanding by using leading questions for the student to work out the problem for themselves. This method helps them to ace their exams and sets them up for the future as they learn how to learn.
I am a postdoctoral research scientist at the University of Oxford, having gained my PhD and masters at The Francis Crick Institute and Imperial College London. My undergraduate degree was in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, allowing me to study Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths, at degree level. Throughout these jobs I have tutored privately and as part of my role in the university.
Depending on the student, a typical lesson would last 45-60 min.
