Super Prof

Ryan is one of our best Philosophy tutors. They have a high-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Ryan

Hi, I am Ryan and I am happy that you found my profile! I am a PPE graduate from Oxford University and am passionate about philosophy. I am experienced at teaching philosophy and theology at A-level and undergraduate level. My students have consistently achieved A* or A grades and significantly improved their understanding of the subject areas.

Being able to share my enthusiasm with students is always exciting and I particularly enjoy making complex philosophical ideas clear and showing how they are relevant to each student. I co-founded the Oxford University Philosophy Society and have had extensive experience of explaining philosophical ideas to large and varied audiences.

I am additionally legally qualified and a non-practicing barrister. Studying for a LLM Masters degree enabled me to focus on jurisprudence and political philosophy which in turn helped me to further develop my expertise and to explore how philosophy can be directly relevant to major issues facing society today.

My legal training also enabled me to learn the most effective techniques for clear and persuasive communication. I now seek to teach my students to apply these techniques in their essays and presentations. Similarly, as a former competitive debater, I offer teaching in debating and public speaking and I also apply these skills to when preparing students to be confident and persuasive in Oxbridge admission interviews.

I look forward to hearing from you!

About the lesson

Lessons will be specifically tailored to each student, whether that be to prepare for university exams/essays, or for university admission and entrance tests, for research/EPQ projects, the relevant A-level syllabus, or to systematically explore a specific area of interest. I also provide detailed feedback on essays, essay plans and dissertation/thesis topics.

I aim to get students to actually begin to do philosophy themselves and to see how philosophical thinking can address genuinely important issues that we all grapple with in our lives. I particularly enjoy studying and teaching the history of philosophy and theology, looking for the ways in which thinking from the past can be taken seriously and might actually contain real insight from which we can learn today.

Lessons are typically one hour long, but this can be flexible.

Please do let me know if you have any questions at all.

I met Ryan when he was still an undergraduate at Oxford. Since then, I have seen him speak to a variety of audiences, both in academic settings and beyond.

Ryan can capture the most difficult and far-reaching ideas so clearly that his interlocutors will be able to pursue these ideas further together with him. He is the rare teacher who can actually teach his students how to think more clearly.
