About Polly

Hi, I'm Polly! I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2022 with a first-class BA in Geography. Originally from Bristol, I studied Geography, History, and Politics at A-level, achieving an A* in all three subjects. I just graduated with a distinction in MA Chinese Studies from SOAS University of London.

About the lesson

With over five years of experience, I have successfully taught students ranging from KS3 to undergraduate level in various settings, including classroom instruction, small group sessions, and one-on-one tutoring. In 2023, I taught Geography to A-level students at an international school in the UK. One of my recent success stories involves tutoring a student in Geography over the course of a year, where they improved from a C/D grade to achieving an A* in their A-level exams. My comprehensive understanding of both the physical and social science sides of Geography ensures well-rounded support for my students. I have worked as a qualified tutor for the National Tutoring Programme (NTP), providing targeted support to students falling behind in school. This role has equipped me with strategies to address educational gaps and boost students' confidence and academic performance. Additionally, I have experience teaching students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), enabling me to adapt my methods to meet their specific requirements and help them achieve their academic goals. My teaching approach is tailored to the unique learning style of each student, ensuring personalised and effective instruction. I create both short-term and long-term plans based on the specific areas where the student needs improvement. Our sessions can focus on a variety of goals, including mastering content, honing exam and essay techniques, or developing effective revision strategies. To reinforce learning, I assign questions or exercises for students to complete between sessions, allowing them to practise and apply what we've covered. In our subsequent meetings, we will review their work, discuss their approaches, and identify ways to improve. This iterative process helps students build confidence and develop a deeper understanding of the material.

Perfect! Polly is a great geography tutor who taught two of my daughters for A Level Geography. She showed huge patience throughout and was very understanding of their different learning styles, adapting her teaching to suit each of them individually. She explained difficult topics clearly, built their confidence and was always supportive and encouraging. We were extremely grateful for all her help and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, patient and dedicated geography tutor.

Perfect! Polly did a great job tutoring my daughter. She was struggling with A level Geography and Polly was really great with her. She planned out all the lessons and was really approachable and friendly. Her hands on help meant my daughter ended up getting the grades she needed to go to Uni. I'd highly recommend Polly to anybody that needs some extra help, it made all the difference.

Polly is an incredible tutor! She was so patient, creative and attentive when guiding my daughter through her geography A-Level, showing that she really understood the content and how to make it engaging for an uninspired student. Don’t know how we would have got through the A-Level process without her!

Polly tutored my daughter each week for a year online preparing her for geography A level. Polly absolutely loves geography and her broad and impressive knowledge of the subject, that is fully at her fingertips, completely inspired my daughter to love geography too. Polly prepares tutorials very conscientiously, and she takes time to work out what her tutee needs and wants to learn about each lesson. Her support for exam preparation is outstanding also and I recommend Polly without reservation.
