About Kristen

With over a decade of experience in the classroom, I am confident that I could help your child fulfill their educational goals and address any areas of need. My Master's degree in Special Education also provides a solid background in evaluation of problem areas and differentiation of instruction.

Professional background aside, it is paramount for children to feel secure and safe during instruction. I encourage students to be honest about their comfortability with subject matter and ask as many questions as necessary to feel confident.

While progress and grading systems are important aspect of evaluating learning, helping build confidence in oneself as a life-long learner is equally important. It is my hope to provide both.

About the lesson

Motto: "Meet every learner where THEY are."
Methodology/Philosophy: It is basic human nature to flourish when in an environment of guidance and care. This is the approach I have always utilized in the educational world. Students must first feel safe before they are able to learn and grow. Each lesson is catered to the level of student readiness and we set small, realistic, and measurable goals. This allows for students to see their progress and encourage them to keep striving.

A typical lesson will begin with a small chat session where we greet one another and do a check in. Next, a quick skill warmup (usually in the form of a game or activity). Then, we set our focus for the day and get into direct instruction. This step is usually short, concise, and very guided. Students then have opportunity to practice. Finally, we do an exit activity and set our intentions for the following session.

Lessons are geared toward the elementary school age in most subject areas (math, reading, writing, vocabulary, etc). Since virtual sessions are preferred, students 3rd-5th are recommended. Sorry, no ESL or ELL.
