About Lei
Hello! I'm a dedicated Reading and Writing tutor with over four years of experience teaching more than ten children, many of whom have been diagnosed with ADHD. My journey into tutoring began not in a classroom, but through a genuine love for helping children discover the joy of words, even those who initially struggled, resisted, or believed they simply "couldn't do it."

The Philosophy Behind My Method
Every child has a "key"—and for ADHD kids, it's usually their passion.
I believe no child is "hard to teach." Some just need a different door. For ADHD kids, that door is often locked by boredom, frustration, or shame. My job is to find the right key—and that key is interest.
Before I teach anything, I get to know your child—their favorite games, characters, hobbies, and what makes them laugh. Then I build every lesson around what they love. Dinosaurs? We read about T-Rex. Superheroes? We write comic strips. Minecraft? We build sentences about creepers. Learning sticks when it's about what they love.
What Makes My Method Different
Most tutors teach subjects. I teach children. Here is what sets me apart:
Traditional Tutoring My Approach
Follows a fixed curriculum regardless of the child's mood or focus Adapts in real time based on the child's energy and engagement
Praises only correct answers and finished work
Celebrates effort, trying, and even just showing up
Expects children to sit still and pay attention
Welcomes movement, fidgeting, and active participation
Teaches skills in isolation
Weaves skills into the child's personal interests
Focuses on short-term results
Builds long-term habits that stick
My Teaching Techniques
Multi-Sensory Learning – I engage all the senses. We trace letters in sand, clap syllables, use magnetic letters, draw pictures, and even act out words. This keeps ADHD brains stimulated and helps information stick through multiple pathways.
Bite-Sized Chunks – My lessons are short, active, and broken into small, manageable segments. No activity lasts longer than 5–10 minutes. This prevents overwhelm, reduces frustration, and gives the brain frequent "reset" moments.
Positive Reinforcement as a Strategy – I do not wait for big achievements to give praise. I celebrate:
Trying even when it is hard
Sitting through an activity
Remembering one letter sound
Writing one complete word
Simply showing up with a good attitude
Every session ends with genuine, specific praise—not a generic "good job," but "You worked so hard on that 'th' sound today! I am so proud of you!" This builds confidence faster than any worksheet ever could.
Flexibility in Action – If a child is having an "off" day, I pivot. We might switch to a game, take a movement break, sing a song, or try a completely different activity. I never force—I guide with kindness.
Habit-Building for Long-Term Success – I do not just teach skills; I build small, sustainable habits that last beyond our sessions. Examples include:
Reading for 5 minutes before bed
Writing one sentence about their day
Finding one new word they want to learn each week
These habits compound over time. Small efforts, repeated consistently, lead to massive progress.
A Typical Lesson Outline (50 Minutes)
0–5 min Connection Check-In: "What made you smile today? What do you want to learn about?" Builds trust and shows I care about them first
5–10 min Interest Warm-Up: A quick game using their favorite topic (flashcards, puzzles, or storytelling) Grabs attention immediately through relevance
10–20 min Focused Skill Work: Phonics, decoding, or spelling, always using their interests as examples Keeps engagement high through personalization
20–25 min Movement Break: Physical activity tied to learning (jump for syllables, spell with body movements) Resets energy and reinforces through muscle memory
25–35 min Reading Practice: A short, high-interest story or passage about their favorite subject, Builds confidence through familiar, exciting content
35–40 min Positive Pause: "What is one thing you did really well today?" (They tell me first, then I add my praise) Teaches self-recognition and builds self-esteem
40–48 min Writing Activity: Draw and write 2–3 sentences about their interest. Makes writing feel like play, not work
48–50 min Celebration & Habit Check: High-fives, victory dance, or sticker—plus one small habit to try at home. Ends on pure positivity and builds lasting routines
This structure is a guide, not a cage. I adjust it in real time based on the child's mood, energy, and focus.
My Promise to You
Above all, I am truly patient. Not the "fake smile while internally frustrated" kind. I genuinely understand that ADHD brains work differently. I do not fight the fidgeting—I work with it. I do not get upset when attention drifts,I gently guide it back. I do not compare your child to others,I celebrate their unique journey.
I meet your child where they are, not where they "should" be.

If you are reading this, I want you to know: I do not see your child as a challenge. I see them as a whole person with gifts, quirks, and unlimited potential. My goal is not just to teach them to read and write. It is to help them fall in love with learning, to believe in themselves, and to carry positive habits that will serve them for life.
