About Marcela

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Studies from Grand Canyon University and a Master’s degree in Teaching from Dominican University. I also completed graduate-level coursework in School Counseling, which strengthened my skills in supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic needs. I am currently a K–5 Reading and Math Intervention Teacher with over 15 years of experience working with students from birth through 12th grade in a variety of educational settings. This background has given me a deep understanding that every child learns differently and at their own pace. I believe learning should feel supportive, encouraging, and purposeful. Even when progress feels slow, growth is always happening. I consider myself a lifelong learner and approach each student with patience, kindness, and respect, creating a safe space where they can build confidence and succeed.

About the lesson

My tutoring sessions are intentionally structured while remaining flexible to meet each student’s individual needs.

I use a combination of:
Direct instruction
Inquiry-based learning
Blended learning
Personalized and differentiated instruction

A typical K–5 session begins with clear instruction to introduce or reinforce a skill. I ensure the student is actively engaged and understands the concept before moving on. We then practice together through guided examples before transitioning to independent work. I provide ongoing scaffolding and support. Older students are encouraged to reflect on where they feel challenged, while younger students benefit from repetition, modeling, and multiple examples. My current focus is working with K–5 students who are struggling in reading and math, helping them build strong foundational skills, confidence, and independence.

Olivia knows all letter names and letter sounds with the exception of long vowel sounds and some articulation. She is able to read sight words and decode words by sounding out letters as she reads. We will continue to work on fluency and sight words.
