About Eric
Hi, I’m Eric, and I bring over 25 years of real-world engineering experience to every class I teach. As a professional hardware engineer, I’ve worked on projects for organizations like NASA, Ericsson, and Lockheed Martin, and now I’m passionate about sharing that knowledge with new learners—especially those just beginning their journey in 3D design and digital modeling. My classes are welcoming, hands-on, and focused on helping students learn by doing. I use FreeCAD, a powerful and free open-source design tool, to teach essential skills like sketching, modeling, and preparing files for 3D printing. Whether students are curious about engineering, want to build their own inventions, or just love creating, I’m here to guide them every step of the way. What sets me apart is not just my technical background, but my ability to explain complex concepts in a clear, patient, and encouraging way. I love seeing students go from “I’ve never done this before” to proudly showing off something they designed themselves. As a tutor, my approach is rooted in clarity, patience, and real-world application. I focus on helping learners not only use FreeCAD, but also understand the "why" behind the tools they're using—building a solid foundation in digital design thinking.

I use a project-based learning approach where each lesson leads to a tangible result. Students don’t just watch—they build. I demonstrate each step live using screen sharing, and then pause frequently so students can follow along, ask questions, and even share their work for guidance.
I believe in learning by doing, and my lessons are structured to boost both skill and confidence, especially for beginners who might be intimidated by technical tools.

A brief overview of the day’s design goal (e.g., coaster, nameplate, USB holder)
A walkthrough of new FreeCAD tools or features
A live, guided modeling session with step-by-step instructions
Time for learners to apply what they’ve learned, ask questions, and show progress
A wrap-up with next steps or STL export guidance

I bring over 25 years of engineering experience—from NASA to major telecom and defense companies—into the classroom, but I make those concepts approachable for beginners. My background allows me to explain complex topics with real-world context and a relatable tone.
