About Selena

As a tutor who has taken the AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam and continues to actively use Mandarin in both academic and conversational settings, I understand the challenges students face when learning Chinese. I specialize in helping AP Chinese students and language learners improve their speaking, reading, writing, listening, and story narration skills through personalized one-on-one online lessons.
---------------
I have a patient and encouraging teaching style, and provide lessons that align to the student’s goals, whether that be preparing for the AP exam, improving in conversation and pronunciation, or strengthening grammar and vocabulary. I also provide practice with cultural topics, and real AP-style questions to help students feel fully prepared.
---------------
As a current high school student, I can connect easily with younger learners, and I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and steadily improve their Mandarin skills with confidence.

About the lesson

Teaching methods and techniques:

-Building real communication skills through directly speaking in Mandarin as warm-up
-Helping students improve in areas that are tested in the AP Chinese exam (reading, writing, speaking, and presentation)
-personalized feedback to help students improve naturally over time

Typical lesson plan:

-every lesson begins with a short warm-up conversation or review from the previous lesson
-targeted practice in certain areas that need improvement
-teaching material directly from College Board
----------
As a student who has finished the AP Chinese course and exam, I understand the strategies needed to succeed academically. I can give students practical tips, relatable explanations, and effective study methods from a current student perspective.
----------
Who the lessons are for:
-intermediate Mandarin Chinese learners
-AP students seeking tips for the exam
-middle and high schoolers who want to improve conversational Mandarin, pronunciation, reading, listening comprehension, and cultural understanding.
----------
Lessons are personalized for each student’s goals, whether they are for personal interest, heritage language development, or exam success
