About Max
I am a 19-year-old student studying Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Nottingham. I have just finished my second year, so with more time to focus on new ventures and having previously worked at Explore Learning in the past, I have decided to continue my tutoring journey by becoming a private tutor. When I was an in-centre tutor at Explore Learning, I helped students of all ages answer questions tailored to their skillsets. In my experience, I noticed that the students in later stages of education require more time with tutors in order to tackle questions that are often more in-depth. I felt that I was more useful to students when teaching this way than in larger groups, which is what convinced me to make the switch to private tutoring.

I believe that the best way to teach GCSE STEM subjects is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. When I was doing my GCSEs, I remember feeling that a lack of exam experience was holding me back from progressing in certain subjects. Schools simply don't have the time to go through enough practice questions in lessons for students to feel confident heading into exams. My tutoring sessions will begin with tackling key concepts that come up commonly in exams in order for students to gain a fundamental understanding of each topic. As the sessions progress, I would begin to set example questions based on the content covered previously and then go through these questions breaking them down into simple steps. I achieved grade 9s and A*s at both GCSE and A Level, for Maths, Biology and Chemistry and have worked as a tutor for Explore Learning in my two years at college. During this time, I have learnt the importance of understanding how mark schemes work and where marks can be easily picked up. In my personal experience, this is what took my grades to the next level. My lessons are for any students who are looking to improve their learning in GCSE Maths, Chemistry and Biology.
