About Fergal

I am a PhD student at Victoria University in Melbourne. I have 20 years of experience mentoring and leading teams of people in the print and design industry. I am at the beginning of my formal teaching "life" having graduated as a mature student in 2019, with a degree in sociology and a first class honours degree (90%) in history. For my honours I produced a thesis on the History of the Northern Irish "Troubles". I am currently preparing a PhD in history specialising in the study of social and collective memory, oral history and historiography.

About the lesson

Dependent on the student and their course/unit/subject layout. Example: I can extract a theoretical idea or concept and work on it/help the student to grasp it in isolation and then reintegrate it into the course content. Sociological, philosophical and historiographical concepts/ideas or theories that the student is struggling to grasp or would like to understand more fully.

Perfect! Im still working with Fergal. Why ? Because he takes his expertise in his subject matter and combines it with life experience. As an older student doing self study on the History and Philosophy of Science, I needed someone with both. This to keep me honest, to add academic rigour to my essay work, something I lack. Perfect! Fergal had a great depth of knowledge regarding history and was excellent at sharing it. It’s not everyday that you find a great tutor and I can say with great confidence Fergal was that great of a tutor.

Perfect! I desperately needed help with first year sociology and I was fortunate to have made contact with Fergal. He clearly explained sociological terms and ideas to me and never made me feel stupid for asking what I am sure were some very stupid questions! He was flexible with his availability and was on hand to answer questions and provide guidance when I asked. I would highly recommend Fergal to anyone requiring help with sociology or any of the other subjects he tutors in.
